Duna IPLink-1 (Archive)

^^ Craft Information - Communications Restored ^^

Du-SCAN is the most advanced planetary scanning satellite yet launched, mainly thanks to the new Synthetic Aperture RADAR (SAR) instrument it carries that will allow it to scan the surface of Duna at a resolution higher than previous satellites K-SCAN and Mu-SCAN. It also brings along a multispectral scanner which will allow us to identify various biomes of Duna and also work to discover any anamolous signatures.

The satellite has successfully mapped Duna's surface and has now been inserted into its final orbit, a Molniya polar trajectory that will allow it to serve as a communications link between satellites in orbit around Duna and Kerbin. Although it only carries a 2.5Mm omni antenna to relay a signal from Kerbin, this will still allow craft close to Duna to close down their power-hungry dishes to conserve battery.

Although full data rates won't be possible for another day while the signal path moves further away from the sun's corona, we have at least been able to receive a basic "I'm here and okay" signal from the probe to know that nothing serious occured during the communications blackout.
